Willie Peas Reese Lamb was born August 18, 1892 to Dr. William “Will” B. Reese and Annie Robertson Reese. Willie weighed a whopping twelve pounds when she was born and she was told she was the homeliest baby ever seen with cheeks so fat, one could hardly see her eyes. Her mother had a difficult time with the labor and was very ill to boot so when she saw her new daughter she said, “Take her away, that’s not my girl!” Her father, however, had fallen in love at first sight and proudly announced, “Well, she’ll always be my girl, and her name will be Willie.” And so Willie was named for her father.
